This episode of Gulf Detectives follows three young science detectives as they learn about the animals of the Northern Gulf of Mexico with the help of the scientists at Dauphin Island Sea Lab. The program features a shark research boat trip, a shark dissection, and a visit to Coffee Island to learn about the efforts by The Nature Conservancy to restore the oyster reefs in the area. The gulf detectives also get their hands dirty with marsh mud to discover what creatures live there and what they can tell us about the health of the Gulf’s ecosystem. This Learning Adventure teaches concepts of animal habitats, animal adaptations, food webs, ecosystems, and other aspects of biology and environmental science. Join us!

OVEE INTRO
The Question
How is a milkshake like shaving cream? The Gulf Detectives' curiosity is piqued by this question. They decide to search for answers at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
Exploring Oysters
Ashley learns about oysters and how they protect shore lines with the help of the Nature Conservancy, the environmental organization that is responsible for the Coffee Island Oyster Restoration Project.
Sharks
Trophic Ecologists explain the importance of sharks and their place in the ecosystem. Then Alex goes back to Dauphin Island Sea Lab for a shark dissection.
The Benthic Zone
To get to the bottom of the question, Morgan heads to the Benthic Zone to meet with marine mud experts to learn how organisms are collected. Then back at the lab, he learns more about these organisms and their importance to the ecosystem.
The Answer
The detectives meet to discuss how their research may or may not answer their original question. Finally the answer becomes clear!

She enjoys sharing her knowledge and excitement about the ocean with anyone interested.
