We bring you this powerful and acclaimed film documentary to build understanding, affirmation and community for Trans Youth.

This live stream event is a partnership between HiTOPS, Independent Lens and OVEE, PBS/WHYY and Psychology Today.

    Jennifer Bleyer is a senior editor at Psychology Today. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, Slate, Salon, Monocle, Tablet, Self, Real Simple, Cosmopolitan,The Forward, Babble, City Pages and The Atlantic. She was the founding editor of Heeb Magazine and has been an adjunct instructor at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University.

  • Shaleece Haas, "Real Boy" Filmmaker

    Shaleece Haas is a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles, CA. She is the co-producer of the 2013 documentary film, The Genius of Marian, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was broadcast on POV in 2014. Her 2010 documentary short, Old People Driving, premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival and was broadcast on the PBS News Hour as part of the Economist Film Project. In addition to her work as a director/producer, Shaleece is an instructor of video storytelling at UC Berkeley’s Advanced Media Institute.

    Elizabeth J. Meyer, Ph.D., is the Associate Dean for Teacher Education and Associate Professor of Educational Foundations, Policy, and Practice at the School of Education at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is the author of Gender, Bullying, and Harassment: Strategies to End Sexism and Homophobia in Schools and Gender and Sexual Diversity in Schools. She is also the co-editor of Gender and Sexualities in Education and Supporting Transgender and Gender-Creative Youth: Schools, Families, and Communities in Action. Meyer writes the PT blog "Gender and Schooling."

    Beck is originally from the Los Angeles Area and now resides in Boston, Massachusetts. Beck has a passion for working with the LGBTQ+ community and has years of experience doing so. He has written articles and papers directly addressing the need for training staff on LGBTQ+ communities. Beck has spoken nationally at various conferences regarding LGBTQ+ communities. Beck has created programming for LGBTQ+ specific treatment programs, is on the Board of Directors for NALGAP (National Association of LGBTQ Addiction Professionals), and works closely with LGBTQ+ sober communities around the country.
