Video Descriptions

Forklift Danceworks - Come Dance With Us!

Forklift Danceworks is based in Austin, Texas and makes dances with people who don't think of themselves as dancers, while building communities. We especially try to highlight the people who do the work that keeps our society running, but don't always get recognized.

PowerUP Trailer

Allison Orr is as much an anthropologist as a choreographer. Her latest work, PowerUP, features the employees and machinery of Austin Energy - more than 50 linemen and electrical technicians, bucket trucks, a set of 25 utility poles, and much more - all performed to an original score by Graham Reynolds in front of an audience of thousands. Watch the full episode at video.klru.tv/video/2365125695/. Arts In Context is a monthly documentary series that airs on PBS stations nationally (check local listings). Go to artsincontext.org or to the PBS app to learn more.

Iconic Austin: Forklift Dancework's Givens Swims

Forklift Dancework's Givens Swims features the everyday movement of the people who maintain and swim at the pool. From neighborhood teens to community elders, the story of Givens Pool will be told by the people who have long lived, worked, and played around this historic place.

"Solo Symphony" by Forklift Danceworks

www.klru.org/collective On July 12-14, 2012 "Solo Symphony" told the story of Austin Symphony Conductor Peter Bay. A live 13 piece ensemble of musicians weaved in and out of classical compositions and original music by Graham Reynolds, while Bay conducts in true to life and abstract ways. With the visionary choreography based off Bay's gestures, choreographer Allison Orr created a unique work that exposes his unique conducting style, passion for music, and the artistry and grace which he performs his job. "Solo Symphony" is a project of Forklift Danceworks, which celebrates the extraordinary in the ordinary by creating original performances inspired by the movement of everyday life.
