Seeking Asian Female

Two strangers — an elderly American man and a young Chinese woman — pursue a marriage brokered by the internet, but they get more than they bargained for when she moves across the Pacific to start a new life with him in America, in this intimate and quirky, personal documentary about modern love.

    Debbie Lum is an award-winning, San Francisco-based filmmaker and editor. SEEKING ASIAN FEMALE (Official Selection SXSW Film Festival, “Best of Fest” AFI Discovery Channel/Silverdocs Film Festival, “Best Documentary” San Diego Asian Film Festival) is her feature-length directing debut. For years she worked as a documentary editor; her editing credits include A.K.A DON BONUS (winner, National Emmy), KELLY LOVES TONY (nominee, IDA Best Documentary), which she also co-produced. She has also written and directed several short comedies, CHINESE BEAUTY, A GREAT DEAL! and ONE APRIL MORNING, which have screened at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival among many other festivals. Ms. Lum is a fourth-generation Chinese American who grew up in America’s heartland. She has B.A. from Brown University and an M.F.A. in Cinema from San Francisco State University
