We have a group of women to thank for Milwaukee Soldiers Home, the National Historic Landmark that still today serves veterans with medical care and housing among other resources. Of course back in the late 19th century, women weren't allowed to enlist in the military but that didn't prevent them from enlisting to the cause. Tending to returning Civil War veterans was how they served. Today's veterans salute the legacy of these women. Learn more about them tomorrow when we release the first episode of our digital series "The Women Founders: Milwaukee Soldiers Home."
10thirtysix | Exclusive | The Secret War: Hmong Soldiers Who Served Alongside Americans in Vietnam
An often overlooked perspective from the Vietnam War is from the Hmong, the largest Asian population in southeast Wisconsin. We look back at their stories of war, how and why they aided American troops, their daunting stories of escape from Laos and why these soldiers are so grateful to the United States. 10thirtysix: www.milwaukeepbs.org/local-programs/10thirtysix/ www.pbs.org/show/10thirtysix/ Subscribe to Milwaukee PBS on YouTube ►► bit.ly/2pESb9F Support 10thirtysix and Milwaukee PBS by becoming a member! ►► bit.ly/35UGfB6 ABOUT 10THIRTYSIX Compelling stories and documentaries about local issues, successes, and the people living and working in our southeast Wisconsin communities.
