Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women is a landmark transmedia project featuring a four-hour PBS primetime national and international broadcast event, a Facebook-hosted social action game, mobile games, two interactive websites, educational video modules with companion text, and an impact assesment plan all inspired by the book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn.

Maternal Mortality in Somaliland - Classroom Module

This educational module adapted from the documentary series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows journalist Nicholas Kristof and actress Diane Lane as they investigate the high maternal mortality rate in Somaliland and meet change maker Edna Adan.

Education in Vietnam - Classroom Module

This educational module adapted from the documentary series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows journalist Nicholas Kristof and actress Gabrielle Union as they meet Room to Read founder John Wood in Vietnam, and meet two girls who have become beneficiaries of his education program in that country.

Gender-based Violence in Sierra Leone - Classroom Module

This educational module adapted from the documentary series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows journalist Nicholas Kristof and actress Eva Mendes as they investigate the high incidence of rape and impunity in Sierra Leone, and meet change maker Amie Kandeh.

Intergenerational Prostitution in India - Classroom Module

This educational module adapted from the documentary series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows journalist Nicholas Kristof and actress America Ferrara as they investigate intergenerational prostitution in India, and meet change maker Urmi Basu.

Sex Trafficking in Cambodia - Classroom Module

This educational module adapted from the documentary series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows journalist Nicholas Kristof and actress Meg Ryan as they investigate sex trafficking of girls in Cambodia, and meet change maker Somaly Mam.

Women’s Economic Empowerment in Kenya - Classroom Module

This educational module adapted from the documentary series Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows journalist Nicholas Kristof and actress Diane Lane as they meet women who have experienced the impact and challenges of microfinance in Kenya.
