Welcome

Welcome to a screening of PBS American Experience The Vote, presented by WUCF, Orange County Regional History Center, The League of Women Voters and Orange County Library System.

Join us for a virtual preview of the new PBS documentary series, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE The Vote to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and women’s right to vote. The film tells the dramatic story of the epic crusade waged by American women. Exploring how and why millions of 20th-century Americans mobilized for — and against — women’s suffrage, The Vote brings to life the unsung leaders of the movement and the deep controversies over gender roles and race that divided Americans then — and continue to dominate political discourse today.

Remarks will also be made by:

Linda Chapin: Orange County’s first elected mayor, the Hon. Linda Chapin is a past president of the League of Women Voters of Orange County and chairs the group’s Centennial Celebration of Women’s Suffrage in 2020.

Senator Geraldine Thompson: A longtime lawmaker and educator, state Rep. Geraldine Thompson currently represents Florida District 44. She is the founder of the Wells’built Museum of African American History and Culture in Orlando.

The screening contains content of a sensitive nature. Viewer discretion is advised.

Join the National American Portrait Campaign

PBS is hosting a national storytelling campaign to capture what it means to be American. That means we need your stories. A series of prompts help you to give us a quick video or photo into your life and what joy/hope/strife you might be facing. Help us make history by creating a communal space where people can share, explore and listen. The more stories we tell, the more we'll see a real, complex, fascinating portrait of America. Tell us your story at www.wucf.org/americanportrait.
